Is your young musician preparing for the Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) theory exams this November?
Don’t let them tackle it alone! Peterson’s School of Music is thrilled to introduce our new MMTA Theory Group Prep Classes. Designed specifically for Levels 1 through 4, these weekly 45-minute sessions provide structured instruction alongside a small peer group, helping students build technical skills and confidence together.
Give your child the structure and support they need to ace their exam this fall.
Class Details &
How It Works
We’ve structured our group classes to maximize learning while keeping the environment fun, collaborative, and stress-free.
Targeted Levels: Group classes are currently open for Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Class Duration: Focused, 45-minute sessions that keep students engaged without burning them out.
Timeline: Class launches this June and runs through Autumn, providing the perfect ramp-up for the November exams.
Why Group Learning? Students learn immensely from watching their peers, cheering each other on, and realizing they aren't the only ones working through tricky theory concepts.
Spaces are limited to ensure attention for every student. Don't wait until the school year starts—prep begins this June!
Why Take the
MMTA Exams?
(The Benefits)
The MMTA Exams provide a clear, objective benchmark for a student’s progress. Participating in these exams helps musicians standardize their skills and provides a concrete goal to work toward throughout the year.
Passing these exams offers tangible benefits:
College Scholarship Eligibility: High school students who excel in upper-level MMTA exams can qualify for prestigious state-level cash awards and college scholarships, helping fund their future academic and musical pursuits.
Tangible Rewards & Recognition: Earning high marks boosts a child’s self-esteem. High-scoring students receive state-level certificates and ribbons that look fantastic on future resumes and college applications.
Building Lifelong Resilience: Learning to prepare for and perform under pressure teaches invaluable life skills like goal-setting, discipline, and performance confidence that extend far beyond the piano keys.
